With an ultimate aim of joining coast to castle, the Aln Valley Railway is to be built along the disused trackbed that runs from Alnmouth station to Alnwick in Northumberland. There are several obstacles that have worked against us since the fruition of the project, but we are finally getting under way.
We have designed our new station that we hope to be built close to the Lionheart Business Park in Alnwick, are currently practicing our track laying and preparing our rolling stock at our Longhoughton Goods Yard site. The planning application has now been submitted and we await its outcome.
We are looking for willing volunteers to help with a wide range of tasks and generous benefactors who can provide hard cash or goods and services in kind. For more information on helping, please click here.

The Alnmouth Village Performing Arts group has organised a social evening at the Hindmarsh Hall in Alnmouth on the evening of Friday 11th March 2010.
The evening will take the form of an Australian Wine Tasting with a bread and cheese supper plus some entertainment ‘along Australian lines’. There will also be a raffle and an inter-table competition with prizes.
The profits derived from the evening will be split between the Village Performing Arts and the Aln Valley Railway. We hope to make a significant amount from the event!
About 80 tickets will be available at just £7 per head and the Aln Valley Railway has agreed to purchase at least 20 tickets. Tickets will be available soon - email roger (at) jermy.4648.freeserve.co.uk to register your interest. Bring along your partner and friends!
Please support the AVR at what promises to be an interesting and enjoyable evening.

The Journal Extra has headlined with ‘Town in line for revived rail link’. The article tells the reader that steam trains could be running within five years between Alnmouth and the A1 at Alnwick, with the rail enthusiasts looking at creating a commuter service once the tourism route is up and running. Pictures include LNER K1 No. 62021 with our very Ken Middlemist standing in front and a painting of the Lionheart site by Kay.
The Journal Extra is a free weekly title, and is free with copies of The Journal sold in Northumberland. It is distributed to over 300 outlets across the county including dentists, surgeries, hotels, tourist information centres and churches.
